Mark Stout is a freelance translator, member of the Literary Translators' Association of Canada (LTAC). His translation of Homestead, by Lise Gaboury-Diallo, the winning French poem in the 2004 CBC Radio Canada Literary Awards, was published in an illustrated, bilingual edition (Homestead, Poèmes du coeur de l'ouest) by Les éditions de la nouvelle plume in October 2005.

Other published poetry translations of his include works by Christine Dumitriu van Saanen, Jacques Gauthier and Patrice Desbiens. Most recently, Mark translated poetry and prose poems for Rhizome, a group of performing Quebecois poets, who travelled to New York City in January and February 2006 to read the poems in French and in translation. One of these poem's was Corinne Larochelle's Petite Drave.

For the duration of the expedition Sedna IV, Mark Stout has translated from French to English the daily journals of the scientists part of this great Mission Antartic.
