Ryan, Elaine Bio

In translation
Elaine Ryan is a guitar-carrying folk soul songstress from Vancouver, Canada. Her music calls to mind influences like Tracy Chapman, Ben Harper, Ani Difranco and Natalie Merchant.
Songwriting came as she began to draw on her diverse experiences, from working at an orphanage in Guatemala to busking her way through Switzerland and Spain. Trained as a flamenco dancer in Seville, Elaine also draws rhythmic inspiration from her love of this
tradition.
She performs in regularly in Vancouver and on Maui at a variety of venues including The Railway Club, Cafe Deux Soleils and The Main in Vancouver and Ambrosia, Casanova’s and Café Marc Aurel on Maui. She released her debut recording, The Sisters EP, in 2007 and is set to release a full-length album later this year.
Elaine’s music has been played on CBC Radio One, Mana’o Public Radio, Radio Pio and is in regular rotation at Vancouver Coop Radio and the Women of Substance podcast.
Her song, Dream of Peace, off the Sisters debut, can be found on a charity compilation honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. called Dream On, which was released in January www.thedreamcontinued.org.
