"Suite à l’adoption de la Déclaration universelle de l’UNESCO sur la diversité culturelle en novembre 2001, l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies, dans sa résolution 57/249, s’est félicitée des grandes lignes de son Plan d’action et a proclamé le 21 mai Journée mondiale de la diversité culturelle pour le dialogue et le développement.

Cette Journée offre la possibilité d’approfondir nos réflexions sur les valeurs de la diversité culturelle et aussi d'apprendre à mieux "vivre ensemble". L'UNESCO continue ses actions pour mieux faire prendre conscience de la relation essentielle qui existe entre la culture et le développement, ainsi que du rôle important des techniques de l’information et de la communication dans cette relation."

Réelle aficionada de la diversité culturelle, Élizabeth Robert désire célébrer cette journée avec un maximum de gens en provenance de diverses cultures. L'événement se tiendra donc en trois langues et en trois parties.

18h-19h Steven Kaal animera une table ronde de divers intervenants culturels et littéraires qui travaillent au développement de dialogue via la culture et les arts. Notamment, Dwayne Morgan, fondateur de Up from the roots Entertainment qui utilise le Spoken Word pour encourager les jeunes afros-canadiens à quitter la rue et la criminalité, ainsi qu'à s'investir dans la communauté de manière positive. Dany Laferrière qui viendra parler des initiatives culturelles de dialogue au Québec, ainsi que Rufo Valencia, journaliste, poète et membre de Radio Canada International, section hispanophone.

L'interprète de conférence professionnel Steven Kaal assurera la modération des discussions et la traduction simultanée en français, en anglais et en espagnol.

Une pause de mi-temps permettra aux participants et spectateurs de savourer un cocktail dans l'Atrium Viger tout en discutant ensembles. Les mets sont préparés par Resto Plateau, une entreprise de réinsertion sociale qui aide les gens dans le besoin depuis plus de 15 ans.

19h30 Steven Mansour, expert en technologie Web communautaire et défenseur des droits en ligne, offrira une courte présentation informative sur le Web et les technologies "Open Source" qui existent et facilitent les communications, tant pour les intervenants culturels, pour les artistes que pour la société en générale.

Une deuxième courte pause permettra au gens de poser des questions.

20h00 Retour en salle pour une performance de poésie multilingue offerte par les poètes participants.

"Excerpts from the United Nations Website"

"Further to the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity by UNESCO on November 2001, the General Assembly, in Resolution 57/249, welcomed the Declaration and the main lines of an Action Plan for its implementation, and proclaimed 21 May the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

The Day provides us with an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to learn to “live together” better. UNESCO continues to promote greater awareness of the crucial relationship between culture and development and the important role of information and communication technologies in this relationship.

This free event will be hosted in three languages and consists of 3 sections.

18h-19h The first part consists of a round table discussion between various cultural and litterary advocates who engaged initiatives in their communities through arts and culture. Namely, Torontonian Dwayne Morgan, cofounder of Up from the roots Entertainment who gives motivational speaches in schools and uses Spoken Word in an attempt to provide a forum for the positive expression of artistic talent with a focus on black youth, organizing bus trips to educational sites, while offering volunteer opportunities, within the community. Dany Laferrière will come speak about the various initiatives organized in Québec to foster dialogue through culture, and Rufo Valencia, will speach about initiatives with the Spanish speaking communities.

Simultaneous interpretation in French, English and Spanish as well as monitoring of the discussions will be conducted by professional conference interpreter, Steven Kaal.

A break will provide chance for spectators and participants to enjoy a cockail in the Viger Atrium. Food was prepared by Resto Plateau, a social integration society that has been helping people in need for more than 15 years.

When we return, Steven Mansour, well-known expert on cyberinfrastructure, cyberactivism, Internet privacy policy, and web-based knowledge transfer methods, will give us a short introductory presentation about internet and the Open Source technologies that facilitate communications between cultures and are made available for cultural and literary advocates, as well as artists and society in general.

A second break, will allow for questions and engaging in discussions.

The last portion of the evening will be dedicated to a multilingual poetry reading and performance by the many poets and artists participating.

"Como seguimiento a la aprobación de la Declaración Universal de la UNESCO sobre la Diversidad Cultural en noviembre de 2001, la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, en su resolución 57/249 recibió con agrado la Declaración y las líneas generales del Plan de Acción para su implementación, y proclamó el 21 de mayo como el Día Mundial de la Diversidad Cultural para el Diálogo y el Desarrollo.

Este Día nos brinda la oportunidad de valorar la diversidad cultural y de aprender a "convivir" de una mejor manera.
